JAZZ HOUSTON YOUTH ORCHESTRA

The Jazz Houston Youth Orchestra (JHYO) is a premier audition-only ensemble composed of 22 of the most talented high school musicians from across the greater Houston area. Founded in 2021, JHYO provides aspiring young jazz artists with transformative musical experiences that extend beyond their local communities.

Under the leadership of world-renowned trombonist Vincent Gardner and award-winning saxophonist and vocalist David Caceres, the ensemble has quickly gained national recognition. JHYO has performed at prestigious venues including Jones Hall, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club, the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C., and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

The orchestra has also visited top music institutions such as the Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Peabody Conservatory, Howard University, and the Kennedy Center’s Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program, offering students invaluable exposure and inspiration. A program of Jazz Houston, JHYO is dedicated to elevating, educating, and empowering the next generation of jazz musicians by connecting them with leading institutions and cultivating their artistic excellence.
